Since March of 2020, Minnie’s Food Pantry has remained a leading force in the fight against hunger, expanding distributions and serving over 218,000 individuals during the COVID19 pandemic. As families continue to recover from winter storm Uri, Minnie’s Food Pantry will be available to ensure that no family goes without basic life necessities such as food and water.

Before winter storm Uri caused so much damage to households across Texas, Minnie's Food Pantry was serving anywhere between 200-300 families each day that we were open. We know the need has grown over the last week alone. Because of this, Minnie's Food Pantry has activated our emergency response and this week alone will be distributing offsite to senior citizens, families at local schools and those in the Dallas area. Our trucks have been traveling the roads to local hotels, taking food, water and toiletries to hundreds of families who have been displaced since last week providing each with food and water, as supplies allow, In addition, we will be serving on-site at our Plano, TX location Wednesday-Friday from 8:30AM-11:30AM. Minnie's Food Pantry has lifted our once-per-month service guidelines and those in need are welcome to come by and receive assistance.

Feeding Our Children - Minnie's Food Pantry

Minnie’s Food Pantry was founded by Dr. Cheryl “Action” Jackson to honor her mother, the late Minnie Hawthorne-Ewing D.D. on April 1st, 2008.

Minnie Ewing was a mother, pastor, and community leader.
She raised nine children and taught each one the importance of giving back and giving the best you had. Ms. Minnie lead by example and the world was able to witness it. She created her own organization called Helen’s House to honor her mother, the late Helen Allen and that’s what inspired Cheryl Jackson, her daughter to do the same. Ms. Minnie understood hunger because as a child her mother walked five miles to get to work each day and she shared how some days they had absolutely nothing to eat, however, they had love and that’s what fuels Minnie’s Food Pantry today.

Ms. Minnie was famous for her hugs and kind words.
She shared a bright smile everywhere she went and she inspired a community to “Agents of Good”. In her final sermon the week before she passed away she said that she wanted her headstone to read “She loved God and she loved God’s people” and that’s exactly what it says. Her legacy lives on through her children and grandchildren who she impacted on a daily basis and the thousands of volunteers that support Minnie’s Food Pantry. She was a warrior and we continue the fight against hunger in her name.

We are honored to continue her heartbeat and we do so through our mission and our programs.
